Some writers like to write while looking out at nature. Seeing an endless blue sky, beautiful plants and flowers, the trees swaying in a gentle breeze can be inspiring. For myself, it inspires me to work on my garden, or daydream about happy things. If I am actively writing a dark story, that is a bad thing. When I write something moody, or I really need to focus on plot or character, I close the curtains and go deep inside. I have a hard enough time focusing sometimes, I don’t need beautiful weather messing up my whole day. Now if there is a good storm on the horizon…
Old West End film update:
The Adrian Film Festival was a well-run two-day fest, with quality sound and screening at two event locations. Our film screened to a nice crowd with great reactions and good Q & A questions. We really enjoyed our time there, a nice selection of films with some really cool filmmakers and guests.
The International Horror Hotel in Cleveland this June has selected and we have been awarded Best Sci-Fi Short film. This is our first award for Old West End! I am really excited; this is one of my favorite festivals because it is all about having fun and celebrating genre films and filmmakers. If you like horror and have the chance, check this one out. They accept scripts and usually have table reads with actors at the festival.
Our Next Meetup is Saturday May 13th, 1pm at the Oregon Library. We will try something interactive this month. Get your creative juices flowing with a story prompt and one page writing assignment! We will show a short video on proper formatting and then choose story elements. Then you get to write one page (or more) of a properly formatted script. So, bring your laptop or paper if you’re old school, and have some fun with us this month!
