DECEMBER: Look Forward/Look back

We are almost at the end of this year of complete disruption of what we considered to be normal everyday life. This time of year is perfect for both looking back at what we have accomplished, and looking forward to plan for what we want in our lives.

Screenwriting goals are similar to any life goals. You examine what you enjoy in life, and develop a scheme to acquire those things or skills. Plotting your way to a better future requires at the very least a general plan. The more specific you get when breaking down that plan into goals, the more likely you will be to advance.

Here is a challenge for myself and for you. Write a list of ten things you did in 2020, and ten things you want to do in 2021. Seems like a lot? They can be small, achievable things, or larger ones with small steps/broken down.

Save them in a file, put them on a calendar, whatever works for you. If you want to share them, you can reply by email or post them online. Putting your goals out there sometimes spurs greater growth.

This has been a year to reflect on what is important in our lives. Writers reflect the world around us through our unique filters. As time moves forward and we look back, we inevitably have been changed by the tumultuous year.  Use your voice and talent to benefit yourself by expressing your art, to entertain, educate, and tell a moving story.
